Minister Mujali, met with President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)

 

The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, H.E Othman Hussein Faid Mujali, met with Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), on Thursday 15 February 2018 at the IFAD headquarters in Rome.

During the meeting, they discussed means of enhancing cooperation between Yemen and IFAD, including the resumption of projects and development programs to support the agricultural sector. H.E Mujali explained that the humanitarian crisis namely and acute malnutrition is a real challenge to the legitimate government.

He stressed upon the importance of the support of the international partners alongside the Yemeni people and government in their humanitarian plight “Particularly IFAD” as is an international institution concerned with rural and agricultural development.

H.E noted that the spread of poverty fuels extremism and terrorism, so In order to achieve the desired peace we must first eliminate the problem of poverty as a main cause and provide employment opportunities.

During the meeting, there was a fruitful discussion on the appropriate mechanism for the return of the IFAD’s activity in Yemen, It was agreed that partial resumption would be made in the some of liberated areas until a full resumption of all projects in all regions of the Republic is reached with a focus on the most vulnerable people.

The meeting was attended by H.E. Ms. Asmahan Abdulhameed Al- Toqi Ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Yemen to the Republic of Italy and Permanent Representative to the UN Organizations based in Rome, Mr. Ali Al-Junaid, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and Counselor Ahmed Shammar.
