The Government of the Republic of Yemen welcomes the mediation efforts led by UN envoy Martin Griffiths which aims to find a solution to the crisis Yemen is facing, which has been taking place since the coup perpetrated by the Houthi militias, in accordance with the three internationally recognized references for peace represented by the Gulf Cooperation Council Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue and the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions on Yemen, in particular resolution 2216.
The Government calls on the Houthis to respond to these efforts, to end their intransigence, to withdraw completely and immediately from the port and city of Hodeida, and to hand over heavy and medium weapons along with missiles and land and sea mines maps.
The Government of the Republic of Yemen affirms that the continuation of the Houthi coup militia’s intransigence and its non-response to international efforts will have serious repercussions on the humanitarian and political aspects, and that it will continue to liberate the Governatorate of Hodeida and the entire Yemeni areas controlled by the Houthis.
The Government of the Republic of Yemen condemns the practices of the Houthi coup militia against Hodeida and the coastal Governatorate and its inhabitants by planting mines in the streets, in the government institutions and residential neighborhoods, preventing residents from leaving areas close to military operations, in order to use them as human shields – in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and in violation of all international laws, and in opposition to all norms and values. It also stresses its concern for the safety for the people of Hodeida and the coast and ensures that they are not exposed to any harm. The Yemeni government also warns against the danger of the deployment of naval mines by the Houthis targeting international shipping in the southern Red Sea in a serious breach of international law that the international community can no longer ignore.
The Government commends the ongoing coordination with the Arab Coalition for the support of legitimacy in Yemen at various political, military and humanitarian levels, which comes within the framework of the overall support provided by the Coalition.
The Government of the Republic of Yemen expresses further commends for the progress made by the Yemeni forces supported by the Arab Coalition Forces to liberate the city and the port of Hodeida, who are achieving successive victories which will result in the speedy relief towards the suffering of the people of Hodeida.
